Oliver did NOT copy and paste from there to my knowledge. I did and I also gave credit to where it came from. It might also be a problem for him that in the same post, I promoted the Schuler's Flower Shop in Hoopeston, who have been in business for 99 years..........and by coincidence are a competitor of his business, that he promotes on his is his right to do so.
Perhaps he would prefer that I not promote my wife's family business....or perhaps by shutting down that forum, he can silence that promotion?

Censorship at it's finest is still alive and well in Vermilion County apparently!

Monday edition has been discontinued and I heard that it is now being printed in Terre Haute. I suppose that means loss of jobs for those in the press room.

I would think there are still a few to be found, but it is probably very close to the end of the season. There are probably some to found in the river bottom areas, but probably few in areas they grew earlier in the season.

It was a very good year for them; and was fun finding so many.

That is amazing to watch. It appears that they had not yet developed traffic guidelines, with the cars going everywhich way!

Is anyone else following the play-offs and the Hawks and Flyers series? Chicago has a great chance to bring home Lord Stanley's Cup. They have a very talented team with a lot of depth; and with a combination of youth, tempered with a few veterans that have played in the final round with other teams.

The Blackhawks have not won the Cup since 1961 when Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita played and their goalie was Glenn Hall (one of the best goalies to play the game, but sadly little known today); and they have not played in the final round since 1992.

I have plan to watch all remaining games; and hope to see the Hawks skating aroung the United Center Sunday evening with the Cup.

Those of us that were with Bunge over 5 years, have our pension vested; so I have that also when I am ready.

I will be driving to Clinton, Indiana for my new job.

Thanks to all for the kind thoughts. I feel very fortunate, in this economy, to have the new job.

My new job is a result of contacts I had at the new company. Some of the people I will be working for and with; were once employed at Bunge; as summer employees when they were in college.  One of those people wanted me to come down and speak with them. I had also had contact with my new company a few times over the years when we had project work that they bid on along with local contractors. It is interesting how what you do and who you interact with today; can have a direct bearing on your future....there is a lesson in there somewhere....

My hope is that all being released find a job if they want one. Some are able to retire and some are opting to go back to school.

This Friday, April 23, is the last day of employment for about 90 of us at Bunge. A few more are being kept for a few months, but will then also be released.

I am very fortunate, as my last day at Bunge is Friday, and I start a new job on Monday. My new job requires a commute of about 40 miles and I am very excited about a fresh start. I will be working with Biomass Processing, wind farm projects, and possibly solar power projects. Several other of my coworkers also have new jobs that begin soon.

I found a few yellow mushrooms over the weekend. I had my 23 month old granddaughter along and let her pick them.

The plant is being closed because of an over abundance of soybean processing. While a few years back, the Danville plant was one of the shining stars in the company; it is now older. Bunge has two very large and much newer processing plants in the midwest; at Council Bluffs, Iowa; and at Morristown, Indiana. That makes it difficult, I am told, to be competive against our "sister" plants.

Thirty years ago, I was heavily involved in expanding and upgrading the Danville soybean extraction process; but the equipment now is reaching the end of it's useful life...........apparently just as myself and 99 other employees are.... Tongue

It is not just union jobs. Quite a number of us salaried people have lost our jobs also.

Yes, Tuck is correct. It used to be Lauhoff Grain Company. I have worked there for 32 years and will lose my job on April 23. We had a meeting yesterday morning and then had individual interviews where we were notified if we were being retained or released.

It has been a good place to be employed overall, but of course no one is ever ready for this current situation.

If you live in Vermilion County and have job that pays more than $10/hour, be grateful...

I guess I can be grateful then until April 23; at which time I will lose my job that I have held for 32 years.

I cannot remember the year for certain, but there was a brief period of time; probably about 1973 or 1974; when marijuana was legal in Indiana. That was because of an oversight by their lawmakers. They passed another law and somehow mistakenly eliminated the penalties for possession and use of marijuana. It was only for a few months; and then they renewed the penalties.
