Reading the school posts brought back memories. I attended a country school with first through third grade in one room and fourth through sixth in the other. There were anywhere from 2 to 8 in each class. When a class had their lesson, they would go to the back of the room to a table with the teacher and the other classes would be busy working on their assignments or practice work.

We did not have indoor bathrooms. The girls's outhouse was at one corner of the lot and the boy's at the other. We did though have a kitchen where our lunches were served.

We had a music teacher that would travel from town weekly. At recess we played outside. In the winter we played in the snow and had elaborate pathways made all around the lot, many intersecting, and had a game where one person chased others through the pathways trying to catch someone. In the spring there was a drainage ditch out back that had frogs and tadpoles and we sometimes caught those. In the fall, we would go out into the adjacent corn field, gather corn stalks and make "forts." A highlight of the year was when "Scotty" stopped by. He was a piano tuner and always brought along his bagpipes and played those for us before leaving. I cannot really recall him working on the piano, but remember several of his visits.

Unfortunately after my fouth grade year, they closed the school and bused us into a new school in town. I really missed the fun at that school and am really grateful I had that experience, because by the late 50s and early 60s, we were one of the last remaining country schools.

Thanks for that information. We will have to watch that. I also remember quite well Mr. Roberts.

Here are my pictures of the Arches. These were taken April 9 of this year.

Looking west from the top of the Arches.

Looking toward Ellsworth Park you can see Breese Tower in the distance.

The new Walgreens site came to a halt, because the business in the building there now, has a lease and will not leave until it expires. That is what I recall hearing or reading somewhere.

I believe local labor had an opportunity to bid on some of the CVS site, possibly the initial ground clearing, etc. Two local union contractors that I work with, talked about their companies bidding on it. I have a friend living in the St. Louis area that was here for a while working on the new CVS. All his company does is go location to location, working on the interior of the new CVS stores.

I posted pictures on the old forum of The Arches; which is the common  name of the railroad bridge that crosses the Vermilion River. It is straight north of Tilton. When I can, I will see if I can post the same pictures here.

While I agree Letteman's affair is of minor importance; I also must side with Terry on this. Scumbag fits him well; as it does anyone that cheats on their husband or wife.
I do not see how anyone can argue differently.
I also believe that it is sexual harrassment anytime someone in a position of authority takes advantage of that position for sexual favor; regardless if the other person agrees or not. That certainly is the position my company would take.

We're only bombing the moon because we have so many bombs and not enough people to bomb. Grin

That is great!  Grin

Sort of an inventory reduction?

Does it exist? After reading through these, it seems everyone that has posted is in agreement that the short answer is yes.

Certainly a lot of tongue in cheek typing and responses though......

I believe the 10% premium Terry referred to is the one mentioned in the original link you provided.

I agree with all sentiments above.
How sad what they did to their families, leaving them to mourn and face the shame.
How fortunate for the homeowners they were able to properly end it.

Did anyone else see Ted Nugent when he was in Danville at the Outdoor show about 15 years ago; at the Civic Center? He gave a talk, then did a short accoustic set. There were probably not more than 100 or so of us listening to him; over in the northwest seating area. The only song I remember for certain was his tribute to Fred Bear, the bow manufacturer.

I purchased my first Pink Floyd album in 1970; "Ummagumma" and I believe it has to be my favorite. It is quite unique and people who became familiar with them a few years later, might not recognize the music as the same band. A classic from that album is "Careful with that Axe Eugene."

Music from that album reminds me somewhat of a couple of the King Crimson albums. Regarding King Crimson; their album "In the Court of the Crimson King" has the best cover art of all time, in my opinion. I purchased my first copy in 1970 or '71 and some years later, purchased a new copy; for a crisper, sound; and also for the cover.

I believe Buzz is correct regarding the circumstances surrounding the removal of the housing complex.
We have lived here since 1978, and I have been in the area on and off since 1971; and I do not remember any shootout involving automatic weapons directed at the police.
