November 9, 2010 Meeting against riverboat set
DANVILLE — Anita Bedell, the state’s leading voice against gambling, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday at the YMCA, 1111 N. Vermilion. This is an informational meeting for all citizens who are concerned about what riverboat gambling will mean to the community. She is with the Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems, an educational and watchdog group from Spring-field. I won't be able to attend this meeting. I wish I could. Church group eh?
Sometimes you just got to take the good with the bad. Where were these churches when we were hoping to be selected for the prison? Alot of the people employed there are christians. Some say it was a mistake bringing the prison to Danville. What would be Danville's economy right now without it? It has created alot of jobs and they also buy locally.
Yes there is good and bad with Riverboat gambling. It will boost our economy. We need the jobs plus the revenue it will bring into our economy. Alot of these do gooders have tried to stop other things in the past.
We are not creating new jobs in Danville so what are we suppose to do? I say if Danville has the opportunity to land a Riverboat, GO FOR IT.
You don't have to agree with me but we need something to boost our economy.

We have several casinos in the area near where I live. None are pretending to be moving boats any longer. There were moats built and basins of water beneath foundations have been dredged, but the casinos are stationary in this area. The casinos employ a lot of people and the wages plus tips are decent to really good money. There have been some problems, but people rob the Quick Trip. To have a gaming license is a big deal. The Casinos follow the rules and while I don't visit any of them often, it is a fun evening once a year. Dinner, some penny slots, and listening/watching to entertainment in the lounges. I have never felt unsafe in any of the local casinos or their parking areas. A casino has a lot to offer Danville. The Casino companies usually donate a lot of money to charities in the areas they inhabit.

Cape Girardeau, 30 miles north of us just voted to allow a casino to build. The are one of three cities in the running. It will mean jobs and revenue for Cape if they are chosen.

Danville needs all the help it can get attracting jobs. I, at first was against a casino, but the way things are I think it can only help. As far as crime, read the paper!!! There is some kind of crime commited every day in Danville. I have been to these boats and every one I have been to have good security and are clean and well mantained. I don't ****. I go with friends . We eat at nice restaurents on and around the boat and sometimes there is entertainment. People will travel to go to these, why not leave the money in Danville? There are no jobs in Danville and there does not seem to be any prospect of getting any, so I say go for it.
