First I want to welcome everyone who has joined up if I haven't already. I hope everyone will feel free to be themselves. I thought we had a great group of people at the C-N forum and we were all pretty good at moderating ourselves because we are all adults. There is no moderator here and as the Admin. I'm not totally familiar with the settings so please go easy on me. I don't know if there is any banning of certain words in place, if there is I didn't do it...and I'm not into that anyway.
Ok...on to the subject matter. Did anyone attend the Tea Party in Danville? I was this weekend wasn't it?

DV, It's either this Friday or Saturday but don't you think all they are going to babble about is how terrible Obama is and how the government is going to go bankrupt? I don't think I want to listen to much of that right wing crap. If I go and they start on that I'll leave very quickly.

I just found the article http://www.commercial-news.com/local/local_story_229005424.htmlI'm kind of thinking it might be a good place to observe from a distance. With the media showing disgruntled voters packing heat...it might actually be encouraging some to go looking for trouble...and somebody is going to get hurt. It's bound to happen somewhere sooner or later. I hope not in Danville...but you never know.

Around 2:00 today my SO and I went by the Tea Party....I wanted to see how many attended. There just happened to be a parking place and I thought I would see if I still knew how to parallel park. I did good! Since I had my camera ready (never know when I might see another interesting bug) I thought I would get a few photos while I was there. Got to meet and talk to some forum friends....so that was really nice. I would say there was around 120 - 140 people in attendance. I didn't hear a whole lot of what was being said because I was too busy talking myself. What little I did hear I didn't agree with much. I heard some pretty outlandish claims about Obama and the Democrats from one speaker. To me the guys talking points came straight from right-wing talk radio and FOX news. I'm anti-war and I didn't agree at all with what the speaker was saying about that. My feeling is...as long as people continue to associate themselves with either party they're never going to get anywhere with a political movement that can be taken seriously. Anyway....it was a beautiful day!

It seemed to me that 200 people or less, no matter how passionate, wasn't a very convincing statement of support. I admire the passion that I saw but my admiration petered out after about 45 minutes. No disrespect to the attendees and the speakers but it just "wasn't my cup of tea"!

IMHO, the third speaker should've been the last. Her 'message' became old after ten minutes.
Assuming that there were 200 people there, that's more than any other 'gathering' of anti- people that I've witnessed in the last few years.
For most, it was probably just a 'feel good' experience. But as one speaker noted, he was preaching to the choir.
Your friend was a good speaker, however,... I think he was a little extreme in stating that water-boarding was not torture, that firing up a lighter in their nostrils would be more appropriate. Water-boarding has been used as torture for hundreds of years. There was a video of a journalist who was sure that he could withstand 30 seconds of water-boarding, since he could hold his breath for a minute. He lasted 11 seconds...
Call me a pacifist, but any kind of torture is barbaric, it certainly would not fall in the category of 'civilized,' and absolutely un-Christian. Was he trying to outdo Rush?

That one guy was telling people they would be denied health care unless they were democrats!

GA, Am so glad you post on this website and am looking forward to our future dialogs. I prefer this to Briarpatch, don't ask me why, I just do. I will still post there occasionally but this seems to be my new home away from home. Hope everyone (myself included) can keep it civil.
